Week 1 in Amsterdam
I departed Cleveland on a sweltering Friday morning, only to arrive in Newark for a relaxing six-hour layover. As you can see (by the existence of this website) I made good use of the time.

This is a little bridge that I live next door to.
Gay Pride was the Saturday I arrived. It's a super big deal in Amsterdam, the second biggest party of the year.
The firefighters even park the trucks so they can sit on top and watch the parade - which happens on boats in the city's many canals. There is also a woman watching from her roof in this picture, though it's hard to spot her.

All of these people are just spectators, but some brought their own dance music and everyone seemed to have some sort of beverage. This continued all day and into the night.

Later, we went into an underpass that had this mysterious secret code inside of it. First one to solve it gets... personal satisfaction.
Then, I dragged everyone out to IKEA, a staple of any poor university student's life. It was good fun walking and riding the metro carrying tons of IKEA stuff.

This is my "flatmate," Katie. She's awesome and apparently knows how to cook Indian food, so we're going to have a great time.
More to come...
